what is emotional independence?
Emotional independence is the ability to regulate your emotions and still feel good about yourself even when difficult situations present themselves. It is also the practice of being able to regulate your emotions without seeking constant approval, attention, and validation from another person.
How can you be emotionally Independent?
mindfulness:
Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment. It is awareness of what is happening inside you (thoughts, feelings, sensations) and outside you (circumstances and other external factors) without judging it as good or bad. Practicing mindfulness can help you develop emotional independence because it can help you become more aware of your reactions and reactions when things don’t go as planned
write:
List the ideas and convictions that keep you emotionally dependant in writing. As in “I need things to go my way so that I can feel in charge of my life” or “I need other people to feel good about me so that I can feel better.”
Practice changing these kinds of thinking, often referred to as automatic negative thoughts, with something adaptive and neutral, such “I can handle challenging feelings that come up” or “I am capable of feeling OK with myself regardless how someone else may feel about me.”
